When searching for a college hockey destination, Philip Tresca knew what he wanted. He was looking for a school with good academics and a good hockey program.
So when Yale University’s coaches came calling, the choice was an easy one. Tresca, who had interest from several other ECAC Hockey programs and Hockey East schools, committed to the Bulldogs earlier this week.
“Hockey and academics have always been important to me," Tresca (Newton, Mass.) said. "I have a brother who plays at Tufts and a sister who plays at Harvard. I chose Yale because of the excellent combination of education and high level hockey that it offers."
“I’ve visited a bunch of schools, but fell in love with the Yale campus, Ingalls Rink and the coaches," Tresca continued. "It will be an honor to play for Keith Allain and his staff."
Tresca is a junior at Rivers School, where he’s been a two-year member of the hockey team. He impressed Yale coaches this fall while competing with the Boston Jr. Eagles under coaches Kent Hughes and John Joyce.
A right-shot ’02, Tresca scored 10 goals and added six assists as a sophomore for the Red Wings. That was all under the guidance of head coach Shawn McEachern, a former NHL and Boston University star.
Tresca is on the smaller side, but he has a good stick. He’s starting to add some muscle, which has helped him become a more explosive player.
“I am a 200-foot play maker and a strong skater with a great work ethic," Tresca said when describing his game. "I rely on my high hockey IQ and vision while I am still growing."
