The 2018 Beantown Fall Classic gets underway Thursday and runs through Monday, attracting teams near and far.
The annual event usually brings in some good teams from outside of the area and this season is no exception. The Beantown Fall Classic is certainly not what it once was, but it’s still a weekend filled with a lot of hockey. There are 14U, 15U, 16U, 18U and junior games being played over the course of the five-day showcase.
New England Sports Center, the multi-sheet facility in Marlboro, Mass., will host a good majority of the games. Others will be played at Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center in Worcester, Mass., Navin Rink in Marlboro, Mass., and Northstar Rink in Westboro, Mass.
The 18U teams from the area that coaches and scouts will hone in on include Boston Jr. Eagles, Mid Fairfield Rangers, Little Bruins, GBL Bruins, Northern Cyclones Prep, Top Gun/NEFPHL and Eastern Mass Senators.
Some 18U teams from outside of the region worth keeping an eye on are Virtua, Northwood, Bishop’s College, Little Caesars, Hill Academy, Skipjacks and Rothesay Netherwood.
At 16U, the local teams to watch are Boston Jr. Eagles, Mid Fairfield Rangers, Cape Cod Whalers, Junior Bruins, Islanders HC, Eastern Mass Senators and Springfield Pics.
From outside of New England, keep an eye on Chicago Fury, Brantford 99ers, PAL Jr. Islanders, South Florida Hockey Academy, Skipjacks and Bishops College.
Tournament organizers have combined the 15U and 14U divisions since it’s a small field to begin with. South Shore Kings 14U and Top Gun/NE Fall Prep 15U are the top two teams college coaches will watch at this division. Islanders HC 14U, Jr. Eagles 15U, Cape Cod Whalers 15U and Minuteman Flames 14U have some solid prospects as well.
In addition to the 16U, 18U and 15/14 tournaments going on, USPHL NCDC league games will be played simultaneously.
