Merrimack’s 4-9-4 overall and 2-6-2 Hockey East records show there is room for improvement as the league schedule ramps up again this month, but 13th-year head coach Mark Dennehy (Dorchester, Mass.) saw positive steps and results for his team just before the end of the first semester.
The Warriors swept the second weekend of December with consecutive wins — for the first time this season — over Army West Point and New Hampshire before salvaging a 1-1 tie with Northeastern. The win at UNH was Merrimack’s first in nine road games, and coupled with a point against the Huskies, had it tied for ninth place in the league standings with UMass.
