Boston College secures commitment from ’03 forward Timmy Delay

Days after securing a commitment from 2004-born defenseman Charlie Leddy, Boston College has added another in 2003-born forward Timmy Delay.

The Hingham, Mass., native played for the Boston Junior Eagles this past season, but will be a freshman at St. Sebastian's in 2018-19. His father, Tim Sr., also played at BC, graduating in 1991.

“Boston College has been a big part of my life ever since I was a little kid," said Delay, whose uncle Mike also played for the Eagles. "I would go to BC football and BC hockey games with my family and grandparents as often as we could."

Growing up around Boston, Delay has experienced firsthand the dominance of the BC hockey program during the York era, which has included four national titles. Specifically, Delay recalls meeting a certain 2014 Hobey Baker Award winner.

“I remember going up to watch a BC hockey practice with my Squirt team," Delay said, "and (former assistant) coach Greg Brown gave us a tour of the locker room and we got to meet Johnny Gaudreau."

Delay, one of the top '03 forwards in Massachusetts, is a terrific skater. He's one of the top pure speedsters in his age group. He has an above-average offensive skill set, but will need to develop into more of a finisher over the coming years.

“I consider myself an up-tempo, offensive player," Delay said. "My coaches have really helped me learn the importance of defensive responsibility in all three zones as well."

Delay, a multi-sport athlete, tries to use his speed and athleticism to his advantage each shift. He also understands that while he’s considered one of the top prospects in this age group now, there’s a long way to go in order to be a successful college player down the road.

“My strengths are my skating and I have pretty good hands," Delay said. "I like to play lacrosse as well, so I think that has helped with my hand-eye coordination."

“My coaches always tell me to use my speed and try to create offensive chances," Delay continued. "I have a lot to learn and improve on in all areas."

Along with Boston Jr. Eagles bantam teammates Jack Hughes and Brendan Gorman, Delay is considered a top forward prospect in this age group among Bay State natives. BC’s ability to develop its players into pros is another reason he chose the Eagles.

“I am very impressed with the way Coach York and his staff develop players throughout their careers at BC," Delay said. "Playing in the Beanpot is something I have always dreamed about as well."

Delay is slated to begin playing for the Eagles for the 2022-23 season.
