Tim Joncas to step down at Westminster; Ben Harff to take reins

The head coach behind the Westminster boys hockey bench will be different next season.

On Tuesday, Westminster announced that Tim Joncas was stepping down as the boys hockey head coach after 18 years, finishing with 248 wins. The Martlets announced that assistant coach Ben Harff has been promoted to head coach.

Joncas began coaching at Westminster in 2007 and led the Marlets to a 2011 Large School title and Flood-Marr tournament championships in 2011 and 2015. He won NEPSIHA Large School Coach of the Year in 2011. His teams made the playoffs 11 times.

"It has been an honor to lead this program for the past 18 years," Joncas said in an Instagram post. "I can only hope that I have had a similar impact on the incredible young men I've had the privilege of spending my winters with at Jackson Rink."

Joncas, who also serves as Westminster's athletic director, led the team to the Large School final in 2025. The Martlets went 10-12-3 this season and missed the playoffs.

Harff, from Watertown, N.Y., was an assistant coach at Millbrook from 2019-24. He began as an assistant at Westminster last season. He's also a scout with the USHL's Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.

"Ben's leadership reflects exactly what we value in our boys hockey program," Joncas said in another Instagram post. "He leads with purpose and truly embodies grit and grace."

Harff played his prep hockey at Berkshire.

"Building relationships and guiding student-athletes to reach their full potential is why I work at this level," Harff said. "I am excited to build on the success and culture that Tim [Joncas] established."

Harff is the younger brother of St. Paul's head coach and NEPSAC president Scott Harff.
