The summer hockey schedule marches on in the New England region, with several prominent events on tap over the next week.
The Mini Chowder Cup and Youth Battle of Boston both take place this weekend, July 27-29, in Foxboro, Walpole and several other area rinks. Those events are showcasing '04s and '05s.
Also starting up this weekend is the BU Prep Showcase, casting a wide variety of talent. The event takes place July 29-31 at Walter Brown Arena. Last summer's event featured a few big-time, uncommitted prospects who have since committed, including Canadian-born '02 Cole Shepard (Harvard), '01 Tyler Young (Providence), '99 Teddy Wooding (Yale), and '03 Drew Tsakounis (Penn State).
Vancouver Canucks scout Vincent Montelbano is putting on the Kings of East Coast Showcase at UMass Lowell's Tsongas Arena from July 31-August 2. The event is open to uncommitted '99s through '02s.
One top prospect slated to be on hand is Edmonton Oilers' draft pick Michael Kesselring, who decommitted from Merrimack prior to the 2018 NHL Draft. The former New Hampton defenseman will skate with the Des Moines Buccaneers in the USHL this upcoming season.
The Crimson Combine is always one of the best events of the summer, as the field of participants is selected carefully. This year's Crimson Combine, showcasing '04s, takes place August 2-3 at Harvard's Bright-Landry Hockey Center. Three '03s from last year's event have committed since the event: Tyler Boucher (BU), Jack Hughes (Northeastern) and Ryan St. Louis (Northeastern).
