Chris and Ryan Bourque sit side by side in the Bridgeport Sound Tigers locker room and are roommates on the road. Together as teammates for the third time in their hockey careers, the two forwards are each other’s best friends and biggest supporters.
It wasn’t always that way. When they were kids growing up in the Boston area, Chris enjoyed making his younger brother’s life miserable.
“There’s a five-year age difference, so I wasn’t the nicest older brother to him,” Chris, 33, said. “He was usually playing goalie and getting tortured by me and my friends for about five to 10 years.”
Being harassed by Chris didn’t deter Ryan from looking up to him. If anything, the pestering aided him, and the effects of those days are still being felt in the present.
