Six locals at NHL Scouting Combine

The New England region will be represented by six prospects at this week’s 2018 NHL Scouting Combine at the HarborCenter in Buffalo, N.Y.

Projected top 10 pick Oliver Wahlstrom (Quincy, Mass.) headlines the group of locals. The U.S. NTDP U-18 right wing committed to playing college hockey at Boston College last week.

Also in Buffalo for the fitness testing and interviews with NHL organizations are defenseman Michael Callahan (Franklin, Mass./Youngstown Phantoms), defenseman Jordan Harris (Haverhill, Mass./Kimball Union), defenseman Michael Kesselring (New Hampton, N.H./New Hampton), center Jay O’Brien (Hingham, Mass./Thayer), and center Jake Wise (North Andover, Mass./U.S. NTDP U-18).

Boston University freshman left wing Brady Tkachuk, another potential top 10 pick, will be in Buffalo as well. Several recruits, defenseman Seth Barton (UMass Lowell), center Jack Drury (Harvard), left wing Joel Farabee (Boston University), right wing Patrick Giles (Boston College), center Curtis Hall (Yale), right wing Tyler Madden (Northeastern), and center Jack McBain (Boston College), committed to playing college hockey in the region have also been invited to attend the combine.

Participants at the 2018 NHL Scouting Combine were chosen by NHL Central Scouting. NHL organizations conduct interviews with prospects they are interested in potentially selecting in the draft before various fitness testing occurs on the final day of the combine.

The 2018 NHL Draft takes place June 22-23 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The first round takes place Friday night, June 22, with rounds two-seven occurring Saturday. The Buffalo Sabres have the first overall pick and are expected to take Swedish star defenseman Rasmus Dahlin.
