University of Vermont center Ross Colton has signed an entry-level contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning, the school officially announced on Monday.
Colton forgoes his final two seasons of collegiate eligibility to sign with the NHL organization that selected him in the fourth round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
The Robbinsville, N.J., native led the Catamounts in goals and scoring this past season as a sophomore with 16 goals and 23 points. He tied for the team lead in goals as a freshman, lighting the lamp 12 times. He was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team in 2016-17 and was an honorable mention All-Hockey East selection in 2017-18.
Colton was drafted after his final season in the USHL with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. He had a terrific USHL NHL Top Prospects game, which elevated his draft stock.
Prior to Cedar Rapids, Colton played prep school hockey at Taft School.
