Boston College received a commitment from Des Moines Buccaneers right wing Harry Roy, the player announced Sunday on his Twitter account.
The Lakeville, Mass., native is in his third full season playing in the USHL. He spent parts of two seasons in Cedar Rapids with the RoughRiders before being traded to the Omaha Lancers halfway through last season.
Roy started the 2019-20 season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks before being traded to Des Moines. In 14 games this season between the two organizations, Roy has three goals and two assists. In total, he's played in 124 USHL games.
The former Maine commit played for the Boston Bandits from 2014 to 2016 before moving on to play the 2016-17 season with Loomis Chaffee. He earned his first college commit immediately prior to the start of his prep career.
Roy, a 2000, is likely to matriculate to Boston College for the start of next season. Roy's commitment to BC continues an interesting trend for the Eagles. Five of the program's last eight commits are players that had previously committed to another college.
UConn lands BCHL playmaker
Surrey Eagles left-shot forward Hudson Schandor has committed to UConn, he announced Monday on Twitter. The '00 from North Vancouver, British Columbia, is in his third BCHL season.
Schandor spent his first two years of junior hockey with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. He had 27 goals and 32 assists in 100 games with that organization. Schandor has upped his production this season, potting 11 goals and adding 21 assists in 34 games with Surrey.
Locals scoring at World Jr. A Challenge
The United States is in first place through two games at the World Jr. A Challenge in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. The team defeated Canada West, 3-2, in the first game before upending Czech Republic, 5-4, in overtime in the second game.
The two leading goal scorers for the Americans are New Englanders: Sean Farrell of Hopkinton, Mass. and Gunnarwolfe Fontaine of East Greenwich, R.I.
Farrell, committed to Harvard, has three goals while Fontaine, a Northeastern recruit, has two goals, including the overtime game winner against the Czech Republic. Fontaine also has an assist in the tournament. Another local, Stoneham, Mass., native and Northeastern commit Sam Colangelo has a helper.
All three players skate for the USHL's Chicago Steel. Colangelo and Farrell are both in their first years of draft eligibility while Fontaine is in his third season.
