Dexter Southfield junior right wing Doug Grimes verbally committed to play college hockey at Boston University, he announced on Twitter Thursday evening.
The Brookline, Mass., native is in his second season playing for Dexter Southfield and head coach Dan Donato. Grimes is expected to play a more significant role this winter for Dexter, a team expected to once again compete for a spot in the Elite 8 Tournament.
During his first prep season, Grimes posted six goals and added 10 assists. The 6-foot-1 power forward showed vast improvement from last season to this with a solid fall for the Cape Cod Whalers 18-U. He had an assist in Dexter’s season opening 10-2 victory at Cushing on Wednesday.
AIC lands veteran defenseman
American International received a commitment from Shreveport Mudbugs left-shot defenseman Sam Miller, it was announced earlier this week.
Miller, hailing from Milwaukee, Wis., is a ’99 in his final season of junior hockey. In 23 games this season, Miller has seven goals and 11 assists.
The Yellow Jackets are getting a defenseman with 58 games of experience in the USHL between the Muskegon Lumberjacks and Madison Capitols.
In addition, Miller played a year of prep school hockey at Taft and played a season in the BCHL with the Merritt Centennials. He played youth hockey for the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals.
Steeves chooses Minnesota Duluth
Former New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs 16-U left wing Ben Steeves committed to Minnesota Duluth, it was announced Sunday.
Steeves resided in Bedford, N.H., for a while, but has moved with his family to Eden Prairie, Minn., to play high school for hockey for Eden Prairie, a perennial power in Minnesota high school hockey.
After previously playing for the Jr. Monarchs, Steeves played the 2018-19 season with the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies 16-U. In 42 games, he had 18 goals and 19 assists.
He reportedly had a strong fall playing in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League with TDS Transport.
His two older brothers, Alex and Matt, play college hockey at Notre Dame.
Former Quinnipiac skater transfers
Youngstown Phantoms right wing Matthew Cassidy has committed to Ohio State. The Medford, N.J., native played in 15 games for Quinnipiac during the 2018-19 season, but elected to head back to junior hockey to pursue other options.
Cassidy has six goals and 10 assists in 21 USHL games for the Phantoms this season. Prior to Quinnipiac, Cassidy played for the Brooks Bandits in the AJHL and the Springfield Jr. Blues in the NAHL.
