Boston College and Merrimack College picked up commitments over the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Eagles received a commitment from Shattuck-St. Mary’s left wing Will Traeger. The ’02 is in his fourth season at the Faribault, Minn., prep school, but his first with the prep team.
Traeger, from Mendota Heights, Minn., has 12 goals and 13 assists in 22 games played for the Sabres. In the recent Cushing Academy Invitational, Traeger stood out for his elite speed. He was able to create separation and beat defenders wide.
Boston College beat out several other programs, including a few from Hockey East, for Traeger. Over the years, Jerry York’s program has had success with Shattuck alums. The 2019-20 Eagles feature a few former Shattuck players, including Logan Hutsko, Drew Helleson, and Graham McPhee. Going back a few years, BC stars Ben Eaves and Patrick Eaves were both Shattuck products.
One of BC’s top recruits from the future is a friend and former teammate of Traeger's at Shattuck-St. Mary’s. ’03 Peter Reynolds, who has moved onto the BCHL’s Chilliwack Chiefs, is considered a potential top two round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Warriors land Rubin
Don Bosco and New Jersey Rockets 16-U defenseman Michael Rubin has committed to Merrimack, he announced via Twitter on Thursday.
The Blauvelt, N.Y., native is a rugged, physically mature defenseman. In eight USPHL games, he has five goals and seven assists. Rubin and the Rockets also played in several showcases in New England this fall, including the Mid Fairfield Showcase and Beast Columbus Day Showcase.
With the Rockets, Rubin plays for his dad, Noel Rubin. In addition to the Warriors, he had varying degrees of interest from a few other Hockey East schools.

St. Cloud Blizzard defenseman Alex Murray committed to Miami, he announced on Twitter. The Glenview, Ill., native is in his second season in the NAHL after playing two years for South Kent Selects Academy. The ’00 righty has five assists in 21 games played for the Blizzard.
