There will be no shortage of hockey being played over the next five days in the greater Boston area. Coaches and scouts will be out in full force to watch the Massachusetts Hockey Festival, Battle of Boston Spring Tier 1, Chowder Pre Draft, USPHL Spring Showcase, and a couple of exhibition games leading up to the weekend.
The most high-end event of the weekend will be the Massachusetts Hockey Festival at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro. Ages competing for a spot at national camp are the ‘02s (Select 17s), ‘03s (Select 16s), and ‘04s (Select 15s). From this weekend’s games, the field will be whittled down to next weekend’s Massachusetts Hockey Final 40. Then, players will be chosen to represent the district at the USA Hockey Player Development Camps later this summer in Amherst, N.Y. Schedules and rosters can be found here.
Nick Martino and Eric Quinlan of Boston Management Group are hosting a few exhibition games ahead of the weekend’s Battle of Boston Spring Tier 1 and the Chowder Cup Pre-Draft. Games will be Wednesday and Thursday at Larsen Rink in Winthrop, Mass.
In addition to BMG’s two teams, Tigers 1 and Tigers 2, Futures Pros Black, Future Pros White, CEM, and New England Nordiques will take part in the games. Wednesday’s games are at 4 p.m., 5:40 p.m., and 7 p.m. Thursday’s games are 3 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 6 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.
The Battle of Boston Spring Tier 1 takes place at the Rodman Arena in Walpole, Mass. while the Chowder Pre-Draft is just down the road at the Foxboro Sports Center as well as a few other area rinks. Both of these tournaments, consisting of ‘99s through ‘02s, will have a few good players while being watered down with far too many teams.

Also going on this weekend is the USPHL Spring Showcase. The league’s three junior divisions as well as 18U and 16U divisions will be competing in what basically comes out to a tryout to make the Premier and Elite division teams. The USPHL Spring Showcase schedule can be found here.
