The college hockey future of projected 2018 NHL draft first-round pick Oliver Wahlstrom is once again in doubt, per multiple sources.
The Yarmouth, Maine, native will reportedly choose between Boston College and Boston University.
Update: Wahlstrom is still committed to following through with the application process at Harvard over the course of the next month, despite many reports to the contrary.
Wahlstrom, the top line right wing for USA Hockey’s NTDP U-18 Team, has 47 goals and 33 assists in 55 games this season. Wahlstrom has one of the best shots of any 2018 eligible draft prospect, and he would be an absolute game-changer for whichever school lands him.
His linemate, Joel Farabee, is committed to BU and also is considered to be a lock for the first round.
Wahlstrom originally committed to the University of Maine as a seventh-grader. Playing college hockey isn't even a foregone conclusion. Due to the NHL Collective Bargaining Agreemet, Wahlstrom could play in the American Hockey League next season because he will not be drafted out of the Canadian Hockey League.
