Headlined by Boston University freshman left wing Brady Tkachuk, there were numerous 2018 NHL draft prospects from, playing in, or committed to playing college hockey in, the New England region. Tkachuk starred for the United States at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship. He’s the son of former NHL great Keith Tkachuk, who also played for the Terriers. Tkachuk is ranked 3rd among North American skaters.
The top player born in the region was Yarmouth, Maine, native Oliver Wahlstrom, the high-scoring right wing from USA Hockey’s NTDP U-18 Team. The former North Yarmouth Academy star, committed to play college hockey at Harvard, is ranked 7th.
Thayer Academy senior center Jay O’Brien is the top ranked New England Prep School prospect. The Hingham, Mass., native and Providence College commit is ranked 44th.
In total, four players from prep school hockey were ranked in the top 100. In addition to O’Brien, there was Kimball Union defenseman Jordan Harris, New Hampton defenseman Michael Kesselring and St. Sebastian’s right wing Riley Hughes.
