New England will be well represented at the 2019 USA Hockey NTDP Evaluation Camp that takes place later this month in Plymouth, Mich.
Fifty-two players, including 16 with ties to the region, will attend the five-day selection camp at USA Hockey Arena. The camp will help select the 2019-20 U.S. National Under-17 Team.
Boston University and Northeastern lead local colleges with three recruits each while Boston College, Providence and UMass have two commits each. Nationally, Miami and Notre Dame are the most well-represented with each school sending five recruits to the camp.
Fifty-two players is a higher number than in past years as the camp used to hover around 40 prospective players. The invitees were selected by USA Hockey NTDP Director of Player Personnel Kevin Reiter, Assistant Director of Player Personnel Rod Braceful, and several area scouts employed by USA Hockey.
The six invitees to the camp who are listed as being from New England are Brunswick left wing and Boston College commit Paul Davey (Greenwich, Conn.), Stanstead College left wing Cole Huckins (Newport, Va.), St. Sebastian’s left wing and Northeastern commit Jack Hughes, Thayer left wing Nick Roukounakis (Pembroke, Mass.), Brunswick center Ryan St. Louis (Riverside, Conn.), and Rivers goaltender Connor Sullivan (Westborough, Mass.).
Tyler Boucher, a right wing at Avon Old Farms, North Jersey Avalanche center Jeremy Wilmer, and Don Mills Flyers defenseman Roman Schmidt are three Boston University commits slated to attend camp.
In addition to Hughes and St. Louis, the other Northeastern commit is Buffalo Jr. Sabres 16-U defenseman Michael Bevilacqua.
UMass is represented by Toronto Nationals defenseman Landon Cato and North Jersey Avalanche defenseman Ryan Ufko.
Mercer Chiefs defenseman Tyler DesRochers and Sudbury Jr. Wolves center Chase Stillman will be the two Providence commits at camp.
Davey and Los Angeles Jr. Kings 16-U defenseman Aidan Hreschuk are the two Boston College recruits heading to Plymouth for the camp.
Avon Old Farms defenseman Drew Tsakounis, a Penn State commit, was also invited to the camp.
USA Hockey’s NTDP Evaluation Camp runs from March 21-25. From there, contracts will be given to approximately 22 players to play on the 2019-20 U.S. NTDP U-17 Team.
