Year in and year out, the Islanders are one of the USPHL Premier Division’s best teams, and Tremblay (Newburyport, Mass.) is often the organizer of such consistency. Their head coach and general manager, Tremblay recruits from all over the country and has moved more than 200 players into the college ranks, including 10 NHL draft picks. Not bad for the program that calls Merrimack’s Lawler Rink home.

The Boston Junior Bruins have become somewhat of a family legacy, and now Peter Masters Jr. is at the end of it all.
In 1992, Masters’ father, Peter Sr., took over the recently founded Boston Junior Bruins program. Along with Peter Jr., who is now the general manager and head coach of the top division, and brother Chris, who is the program director and head coach for the Junior Bruins 18U team, they have built the Junior Bruins into one of the most prominent junior programs in New England.
Peter Masters Jr. (Bedford, Mass.) combines head coaching responsibilities with those of year-round management of all Junior Bruins activities. This includes program and organization development, direction of the BJB Shootout in the fall as well as Beantown Classic events.
Masters, who earned a spot on the Junior Bruins board of directors before the 1998-99 season, has earned recognition as EJHL Coach of the Year. His teams have won EJHL regular-season and playoff titles.
Masters graduated from Boston College in 1997 before playing professionally with the Dayton Bombers in the East Coast Hockey League. At BC, Masters played four seasons under coaches Steve Cedorchuk and Jerry York. He was one of eight defensemen to be named Hobey Baker Preseason Player to Watch honors in 1997.
Before BC, Masters played for the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL under coach Carey Eades, serving as team captain on a national championship team in 1992-93. That year, he earned a spot on the USHL All-Star Team with 41 points in 70 games. — Dan Guttenplan
