Central Catholic and BC High are the top two seeds in the MIAA Super 8 Tournament that will begin Monday evening with the play-in games at the Chelmsford Forum.
The Raiders and Eagles were clearly the top two teams in Massachusetts high school hockey from start to finish. Central Catholic is looking to avenge last year’s disappointing overtime loss to Arlington in the Super 8 championship game at the TD Garden.
MIAA Super 8 Tournament Seeds
1 Central Catholic (21-1-0)
2 BC High (15-4-1)
3 St. John’s Prep (13-3-4)
4 Hingham (12-4-6)
5 Andover (13-5-2)
6 Burlington (19-3-0)
7 Arlington (12-5-4)
8 St. John’s Shrewsbury (13-6-3)
9 St. Mary’s (12-6-4)
10 Pope Francis (16-3-3)
The always entertaining play-in games have an added wrinkle this year with Pope Francis seeded No. 10 thanks to a potential rules violation during the regular season.
The Cardinals will square off with defending champion Arlington in the first game Monday evening. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. The second game pits two Catholic school teams with several very good young players. St. John’s Shrewsbury and St. Mary’s will clash to see who continues on in the tournament at 8 p.m.
