Nine of the top bantam teams in North America will compete in the Junior Sabres 2004 Early Bird Showcase this weekend at the HARBORCENTER in Buffalo, N.Y. Games start Friday, August 24 and run through Sunday, August 26.
The HARBORCENTER is the practice facility of the Buffalo Sabres and is also the home of Canisius College. It is connected to the First Niagara Center, the home rink of the NHL’s Sabres. It hosts numerous key events each season, including the NHL Scouting Combine and OJHL Governor’s Showcase.
Hosted by the Buffalo Jr. Sabres, the Junior Sabres 2004 Early Bird Showcase will feature teams from Ontario as well as the United States. The South Shore Kings and Minutemen Flames will represent the New England region.
Other teams at the event are the Toronto Marlies, Toronto Titans, Pittsburgh Penguins Elite, Vaughan Kings, Southern Tier Admirals and Buffalo Regals. The Marlies, Titans and Kings all finished inside the top 10 in Canada of the My Hockey Rankings for last season. The Junior Sabres matched that feat for teams in the United States.
Most of the top American-born ‘04s competed at the STX 68 Combine in Woodridge, Ill., two weekends ago, including several players who will be at this showcase. There are now six ‘04s throughout North American who are committed to play Division I college hockey. A few players at this event this weekend attended the Crimson Combine and BU Prep Showcase as well.
NHLPA agents, junior scouts, and college coaches are expected to be in Buffalo this weekend to watch this showcase.
