Jack Hughes and Ryan St. Louis will represent the New England region on the 2019-20 USA Hockey NTDP U-17 team, it was officially announced Friday.
Hughes, a Westwood, Mass., native, played the past two seasons for St. Sebastian's and Boston Jr. Eagles. The Northeastern commit had 15 goals and 10 assists in 29 games with the Arrows this winter. He played left wing for St. Sebastian's, but he has the ability to slide into the middle and play center. Hughes has terrific puck skills and is slick.
Hughes is the younger brother of Riley Hughes, an '00 playing for the Victoria Grizzlies in the BCHL. Riley, slated to begin playing for Northeastern in the fall, was a seventh round pick of the New York Rangers in the 2018 NHL Draft. Jack is a late '03, meaning he won't be eligible for the NHL Draft until 2022.
St. Louis, a sophomore center for Brunswick, had 14 goals and 21 assists in 28 prep school games. The Riverside, Conn., native played split-season for Mid-Fairfield 16U. Also committed to Northeastern, St. Louis is an incredibly smart player who sees the ice well. While he's on the smaller side, he's gritty and not afraid to go into the dirty areas.
St. Louis is the son of former NHL great Marty St. Louis, who played college hockey at Vermont. His dad coached his split season team. Ryan will be eligible for the 2021 NHL Draft.
While there were only two New England natives selected, four players with various ties to the region will be on the team: Avon Old Farms right wing and Boston University commit Tyler Boucher, Boston College commit Aidan Hreschuk of the Los Angeles Jr. Kings 16-U, Boston University commit Roman Schmidt of Don Mills Flyers, and Boston University commit Jeremy Wilmer of the North Jersey Avalanche 16-U.

The NTDP U-17 team plays a USHL schedule in addition to competing in international competition. The following season, moving up to the NTDP U-18 team, the group will play USHL games, international games, and exhibition contests against college programs.
The 2018-19 NTDP team has three New England natives on the roster: center Matt Beniers (Hingham, Mass.), left wing Brett Berard (East Greenwich, R.I.), and goaltender Drew Commesso (Norwell, Mass.).
