The eighth annual ECC Tournaments Prep Cup will take place this Friday through Sunday at several venues throughout Central Massachusetts, including Cushing Academy, Winchendon, Worcester Ice Center and Fitchburg State.
The teams have been broken down into several divisions, with the Red Division at the top. There are 20 teams of '04s and 20 teams of '05s competing, which should draw significant attention from prep coaches and advisors looking to preview future talent throughout the region.
The top '04 teams are the South Shore Kings, Neponset Valley River Rats, Northern Cyclones, Academie St. Louis and California Golden Bears. At the '05 level, the teams to keep an eye on are Ottawa Myers, Providence Hockey Club, Connecticut Jr. Huskies, Boston Jr. Rangers and Springfield Rifles.
The South Shore Kings '04s have some very good players, including forwards Michael Stenberg, Brady Berard and Michael Callow. Defenseman Chris Romaine is another one to watch. The River Rats '04s have William Hughes of Phillips Andover, who's being recruited by several area colleges.
