The East Coast Classic Tournaments Labor Day Cup takes to the ice this weekend from Aug. 31 to Sept. 3 at various rinks in the Greater Boston area.
The 16U Red Division, 18U Red Division and 14U Red Division are the three brackets most college coaches and scouts will be watching. The 16U Red and 18U Red will take place at the Salem Icenter in Salem, N.H., and the Cyclones Arena in Hudson, N.H. Meanwhile, 14U action is at the Canton Ice House in Canton, Mass.
The top teams to watch at the 16U Division are Neponset Valley River Rats, North Jersey Avalanche, Yale, ISS Kings and Rochester Coalition.
Particular attention should be paid to the ISS Kings, a team from outside of New England. Forward Gabe Dombrowski and defenseman Luke Antonacci, both 2002-born players, are prospects worth keeping a close eye on throughout the four-day weekend.
The other top four teams are more known to area coaches and scouts from playing in the Beast Series. Rochester Coalition goaltender Grant Riley, an ’02, had a couple of huge performances at the River Rats Jamboree, earning some serious interest from college programs in attendance.
At the 18U Red Division, teams to watch are Neponset Valley River Rats, Yale, North Jersey Avalanche, Cyclones Prep, NEFPHL All-Stars and Rochester Coalition.
Over recent years, this tournament has provided an opportunity for uncommitted players to shine in front of college coaches. Joey Musa (Dartmouth), a Trinity-Pawling forward from Florida, was a recent example of a player committing out of this event.
