Canterbury announced on Thursday that Dan Fridgen will be its new interim head coach for boys hockey.
Fridgen steps into the role after Andrey Uryadovdied on Aug. 14. Uryadov was set to enter his first season as head coach.
Fridgen, 67, was RPI men's head coach until 2006. He's still the winningest coach in program history.
"Dan has achieved at every level of the game — as a player, recruiter, developer of talent and head coach," Canterbury athletic director Rob Morris said. "His record speaks for itself, but equally important is his ability to bring players together, help them reach their potential and prepare them for opportunities at the next level. Our players and program will benefit tremendously from his experience and leadership."
Fridgen played at Colgate from 1978 to 1982, tallying 192 points in 113 games over four years. He played 13 games for the NHL's Hartford Whalers from 1982-82, and played for the AHL's Binghamton Whalers from 1982-84.
Canterbury went 19-10-2 last season, finishing as the No. 3 seed in the Small School tournament. They were an overtime goal away from the tournament championship game.
