Boston College continued its recent hot streak on the recruiting trail, with Monday’s announcement that Charlie Leddy has committed to playing college hockey for the Eagles.
The Fairfield, Conn., native is one of the top 2004-born defensemen in the United States. He became the first player in his birth year to commit to a Hockey East school.
Overall, he’s the fourth ’04 to commit to a college program, but the other three all committed to schools in the Big Ten. He joins Connor Levis (Michigan), Cruz Lucius (Minnesota) and Nick Pierre (Wisconsin) as committed ‘04s.
“I chose BC because I really liked the school itself, and the hockey program is a great option for me," Leddy said.
Leddy is a tall, lanky, athletic, right-shot defender. He skates well and can impact his team’s transition and offensive output with vision and puck-moving capabilities.
Earlier this summer, he excelled at the Beantown NAPS, the BU Prep Showcase, and the Crimson Combine. Over the weekend, Leddy is expected to play in the prestigious STX 68 Combine, a showcase of the top ‘04s in the United States. It was expected that he would commit to Boston College or Boston University.
This is another significant recruiting victory for Jerry York’s staff. The Eagles currently have three elite ‘03s in their pipeline: LA Jr. Kings defenseman Aidan Hreschuk, Shattuck St. Mary’s forward Peter Reynolds, and Brunswick forward Paul Davey.
BC’s top ’02s are U.S. NTDP defenseman Eamon Powell and Tri-City Storm forward Colby Ambrosio.
The Eagles have built a very nice pipeline among the ‘01s, including two projected first-rounders in defenseman Cam York and goaltender Spencer Knight. Forwards Matt Boldy, Danny Weight, and Patrick Moynihan, plus defensemen Drew Helleson and Ryan Siedem round out the seven NTDP ‘01s committed to the Eagles. Another NHL prospect, Victoria Grizzlies forward Alex Newhook, is also slated to play for BC.
The headliner of BC's incoming freshman class is Oliver Wahlstrom, the New York Islanders' 11th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft.
