Bentley University has hired former Boston University star Jon Coleman to be an assistant coach on Ryan Soderquist’s staff.
The Boston, Mass., native played for the Terriers from 1993-1997, then embarked on a pro career in the Detroit Red Wings' organization and overseas.
Coleman replaces Michael Findorff, who left Bentley earlier this offseason to pursue a career outside of hockey.
Coleman had been one of Jamie Rice’s assistants at Babson for the past three seasons. Rice has a solid recent track record of pushing his assistant coaches toward Division 1 or NHL gigs. His coaching tree includes Jason Smith, now an assistant coach for Northeastern, and Brendan Fleming, entering his second season as an amateur scout for the Detroit Red Wings.
In other news, UMass Lowell will tab alum Ryan Blair to be the program’s new direction of hockey operations.
The Ashburn, Va., native played for the River Hawks from 2007-2011. He’s been a coach with the Eastern Hockey League’s Boston Jr. Rangers the past three seasons.
He replaces Troy Thibodeau of Danvers, Mass., who left to become an assistant coach with the USHL’s Tri-City Storm.
