BRIGHTON, Mass. — It took just over six minutes of game action for BC High to once again emphasize the stranglehold it has on the rest of the field in Massachusetts high school hockey this winter.
The Eagles scored three times in the first 6:05 en route to a commanding 5-1 win over archival Catholic Memorial at Warrior Arena, the practice facility of the Boston Bruins.
Catholic Memorial had just one loss on the season entering the game, but Wednesday proved the Knights were still a ways away, like the rest of the state, in terms of competing with the top ranked Eagles.
John Flaherty’s team possesses the most dominant line in high school in the Bay State. The Kramer brothers, ’02 left wing Peter Kramer, ’00 center Thomas Kramer, and ’02 right wing Joseph Kramer, had a hand in the first two goals and three of the five goals on the night.
Thomas Kramer had a goal and two assists and Joseph Kramer also lit the lamp on Wednesday night. Second line center Matt Lakus, who joins the Kramer brothers on the top power play unit, had two goals and defenseman Michael Dragon had another. Lakus’ right wing Matt Keohane had a good night, collecting a pair of assists.
Thomas Kramer is a smart, two-way center who plays a heavy and mature game that very few of his opponents in high school hockey are ready for. Joseph Kramer is the more skilled of the twin brothers, getting quite a few chances, including a breakaway he didn’t quite convert on in the opening minute of the game. Peter Kramer does a good job of bringing it physically and hunting pucks.
Declan Loughnane, an ’03 right-shot defenseman, has good instincts and puck skills. He mans the point with Thomas Kramer on the first power play unit. He does a good job moving the puck around and he could blossom into a Division I prospect down the line.
BC High returns to action on Saturday with a road tilt at Catholic Conference rival Xaverian, a team that is certainly in the top of high school hockey in Massachusetts.
