Since the CHL ruling took effect in Nov. 2024, allowing CHL prospects to be eligible for NCAA Division 1 hockey, a growing number of New England-born players have headed to the QMJHL.
The New England-born players in the QMJHL range from top draft-eligible prospects to former prep standouts just getting their feet wet in junior hockey.
In September, we wrote that New Englanders had more reason than ever to follow the QMJHL. A month and a half into the season, the case is only getting stronger.
Here are 15 New England-born players who have stood out in the QMJHL thus far.
Let’s dive in.
Egan Beveridge
Québec Remparts, 1/11/2007, RW, right shot, 5-8/170

Hometown: Needham, Mass.
NCAA: Boston University
NHL: Anaheim Ducks (2026, 3rd round)Â
Chudzinski recorded 38 points (21 goals, 17 assists) in 54 games for the Wildcats last season, and through 15 games this year, he’s on pace to blow those numbers out of the water. The Needham, Mass. native is tied for second on the team with 15 points (eight goals, seven assists).
Alex Donovan
Saint John Sea Dogs, 4/8/2007, RW, right shot, 5-11/183
Hometown: Darien, Conn.
NCAA: Providence CollegeÂ
Donovan was an extremely productive rookie in the QMJHL last season, recording 53 points in 63 games. Now, as a 19-year-old, the Darien, Conn. native is repeating his success, with nine goals and five assists in 16 games thus far.

Jamie Glance
Saint John Sea Dogs, 9/23/2008, RW, right shot, 5-11/185
Hometown: Stratham, N.H.
NCAA: Boston University
Glance has been outstanding for the Sea Dogs in his first season in the QMJHL. In 16 games, the Boston University-bound winger is first on Saint John with 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists). The Stratham, N.H. native projects to be a potential first-round pick come June's NHL Draft.
Shayne Gould
Moncton Wildcats, 4/7/2007, D, left shot, 5-9/143
Hometown: Princeton, Mass.
NCAA: UConn
After a 51-point season with the USHL’s Sioux City Musketeers last year, Gould has fit right in with the Wildcats as a 19-year-old. In 15 QMJHL contests, Gould has two goals and 13 assists.
Phin Howard
Rimouski Océanic, 1/30/2008, D, right shot, 6-0/183
Hometown: Newton, Mass.
Howard jumped straight to the Océanic from St. Mark’s, and in 11 games has scored once and picked up five assists. The Newton, Mass. native has the size to be a regular contributor for Rimouski as the season progresses.
Justin Lee
Chicoutimi Saguenéens, 6/28/2009, G, catches left, 6-1/176
Hometown: Newton, Mass.
As a 17-year-old, Lee has gotten the majority of reps for reigning QMJHL champions. He’s started eight games between the pipes and has posted a 4-3 record (one shutout), a .911 save percentage and a fantastic 2.27 goals-against average.
Carson Mertz
Halifax Mooseheads, 2/19/2008, G, catches left, 6-0/183
Hometown: Coventry, R.I.

Carter Meyer
Québec Remparts, 4/10/2009, C, left shot, 6-1/179
Hometown: Winchester, Mass.
NCAA: Boston University
The best prospect on this list, Meyer has jumped out to a 17-point (five goals, 12 assists) start for the Remparts in 15 games. As surprising as it sounds, the Boston University-bound center will need to boost his point total further if he wants to be a top pick in the upcoming draft. But that’s not to say he hasn’t been one of the league’s top players thus far.
Caiden Pellegrino
Rimouski Océanic, 2/10/2009, C, left shot, 5-10/168
Hometown: Uxbridge, Mass.
NCAA: Providence College
Pellegrino is off to a blazing start in his first season with Rimouski, having tallied 19 points (seven goals, 12 assists) in 15 games. He’s third on the Océanic in scoring, and is fresh off a trip to the QMJHL Prospects Game in Gatineau, Québec.
Niko Tournas
Moncton Wildcats, 2/17/2006, RW, right shot, 6-2/198
Hometown: Redding, Conn.
NCAA: New Hampshire
Many were surprised when Tournas wasn’t selected in June’s draft, but he’s followed it up with 10 goals and three assists in 15 games for the Wildcats so far. As a 20-year-old veteran for Moncton, the New Hampshire-bound winger is on pace for north of 40 goals.
Kasen Walsh
Chicoutimi Saguenéens, 1/24/2010, D, left shot, 6-2/163
Hometown: Warwick, R.I.
While Walsh’s two points in 10 games for the Saguenéens don’t jump off the page, Walsh is the lone 2010-born New England native to make a QMJHL roster this season. Several injuries on Chicoutimi’s blue line have elevated Walsh into a higher role, and he has the size to be an impact defenseman.
