MARLBORO, Mass. — The 2026 New England District tryouts are in the books.
Over the weekend, 304 of the region’s top players across the 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 birth years took over the New England Sports Center in Marlboro, Mass.
The ’09s and ’10s competed for spots at National 16/17 Camp, as well as the Under-18 Women’s National Team Festival. The ’11s will compete for spots at National 15 Camp and the U18 WNT Festival. The National Camp selections are expected to be announced later in May.
I spent Saturday watching the ’09s and the ’10s, and I caught the ’11 All-Stars on Sunday.
It’s very early for the ’11s. Those already playing in the prep or high school ranks were likely among, if not the youngest players on their respective teams last season.
Earlier this week, we dove into 12 uncommitted ’09 standouts and 11 standout '10s. Now, let’s dive into the standout 2011-born players.
Genevieve Walsh
Bishop Kearney Selects, 2011, F, right shot
Hometown: Fairfield, Conn.
Walsh was the best player on the ice on Sunday, making it look easy at several points throughout the game. She was dynamic, difficult to contain and controlled the play whenever she was on the ice. She scored a couple of highlight-reel goals, including a breakaway in which she picked up the puck in her own end and blew past everybody before going top shelf with a quick wrister. Later, she took advantage of a turnover at the defensive blue line, flying the other way in a 1-on-1. She drove to her backhand and roofed one perfectly under the bar from a tough angle. It was a hell of a finish.

Caitlin Byrne
Ridgefield Junior Lions, 2011, D, right shot
Hometown: Ridgefield, Conn.
Byrne and Bella Scanlan's pair was strong all day. Byrne was poised on breakouts, making a good first pass and skating the puck herself effectively when needed. She made a great play early on a broken regroup, calmly resetting and sending a bank pass off the boards to lead her forward into space for a clean entry. Byrne also scored a beauty moments later, getting the puck at the top of the right circle and immediately firing a wrister bar-down over the blocker.
Ellys Torney
Vermont Junior Catamounts, 2011, F, right shot
Hometown: South Burlington, Vt.
Torney scored a beauty early on in Sunday's action. She caught the defense too far forward in the neutral zone and was wide open on the far side for a feed from Madelyn Peterson. Torney drove in on a partial break, maintaining possession with a defender bearing down on her and going forehand-backhand for the goal. It was a sweet finish to a strong effort.
Sophie DiGioia
Loomis Chaffee/Connecticut Polar Bears, 2011, F, right shot
Hometown: Milford, Conn.
DiGioia's strength and compete impressed throughout the game, as she won battles down low and consistently powered her way to middle ice. In one particular battle, she got inside position, lifting the forward's stick and knocking her off the puck before finding an outlet. DiGioia had some great scoring chances, too, including a sweet goal off a turnover. She picked up the puck in the slot and quickly roofed one top shelf. DiGioia also rang a post with a slick shot in the slot after a blocked shot bounced right to her.

Rease Weaver
North Yarmouth Academy/Assabet Valley, 2011, F, left shot
Hometown: North Yarmouth, Maine
Weaver generated quality chances throughout the game. She and Anne Gingras combined for a sweet goal on a 2-on-1. Weaver stepped around a defender and flew the other way to create the 2-on-1 with Gingras all alone on the far side. Weaver drove into the zone and hit Gingras perfectly on the tape for a redirect in the slot. Gingras buried it inside the right post. Later, Weaver took advantage of a broken exit, pouncing on a loose puck at the top of the zone, dangling across the middle and wiring a wrister that rang off both the post and the crossbar.
Malin Wilde
St. Paul's/Assabet Valley, 4/20/2011, D, left shot
Hometown: Shelburne, Vt.
Wilde's size and long reach made her a tough matchup against the rush, as she made well-timed stick checks to break up plays entering the zone. She was also physical in 1-on-1 matchups, taking advantage of her frame. At the offensive blue line, Wilde did a good job of finding open lanes to make herself available, and she changed angles with quick stops and starts with the puck.
Dylan King
Shattuck-St. Mary's, 8/25/2011, F, right shot, 5-6
Hometown: Darien, Conn.
King's skating stood out throughout Sunday's All-Star game. She made it look effortless at times with her smooth strides. It made her effective in leading the rush and on the forecheck. She had one tremendous solo effort in particular, tracking down the defender as they curled behind the net and forcing a turnover that led to a good sequence. King also had a quick release on a five-hole goal in the slot early on.

Clare Healy
Bishop Kearney Selects, 10/5/2011, D, right shot
Hometown: South Burlington, Vt.
Healy showcased a quick release from the point, getting a lot behind her shots. She had a good chance late in Sunday's game, forcing the goalie to make a strong stick save. She also showed good vision through the neutral zone. Defensively, Healy was solid in transition, including one rush in which she quickly stepped up with a stick check and knocked the forward off the puck.
Ava Harrison
Connecticut Ice Cats, 2011, D, left shot
Hometown: Conn.
Harrison made things happen with the puck on her stick in transition. Her quick skating made her effective in leading the rush throughout the day. Later on Sunday, she made a nice heads-up play to step up outside the offensive blue line to break up Torney's exit and keep the pressure up.
Caroline Warrington
Hanover High/Valley Junior Warriors, 2011, F, left shot
Hometown: Hanover, N.H.
Warrington's hands led to several strong chances for her around the net on Sunday. She scored an easy one after a turnover right to Kylie Clancy in the slot. Warrington got the puck in front and showed a lot of poise as she went forehand-backhand for a beauty. A lot of players would've immediately shot it in that spot. She had another golden look later on, toe-dragging to her backhand to try and stuff one home in tight. Natalie Surran robbed her with the left pad.

Bella Scanlan
Bishop Kearney Selects, 2011, D, right shot
Hometown: Wilton, Conn.
Scanlan made an impact in all three zones on Sunday. She was a difference-maker in transition and oftentimes a one-person breakout, thanks to her long, smooth strides and good vision with the puck. She consistently gained clean entries into the attacking zone, and one of her rushes led to a goal for Byrne. Scanlan's skating also allowed her to take away time and space from puck carriers. She made a good play early on a counter rush, getting back, cutting off the forward and knocking her off the puck.
Kylie Clancy
New Hampton/Valley Junior Warriors, 2011, right shot
Hometown: Manchester, N.H.
Clancy was opportunistic and took advantage of turnovers to set up a pair of goals on Sunday. On the first goal, she jumped on a loose puck at the point and sped the other way in a 2-on-1. She had her head up the whole way, surveying the defense and back-checking pressure before saucing a pass to Madeleine Weiner. The initial chance wouldn't go, but they cashed in on the rebound. Later, Clancy easily intercepted a pass and sent a heads-up feed to Warrington at the top of the crease for a goal.
