MARLBORO, Mass. — The 2026 New England District tryouts are in the books.
Over the weekend, 304 of the region's top players across the 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 birth years took over the New England Sports Center in Marlboro, Mass.
The ’09s and ’10s competed for spots at National 16/17 Camp, as well as the Under-18 Women’s National Team Festival. The ’11s will compete for spots at National 15 Camp and the U18 WNT Festival. The National Camp selections are expected to be announced later in May.
I spent Saturday watching the '09s and the '10s, and I caught the '11s on Sunday.
It's still fairly early for the '10s, as they were still among the youngest players in prep last season. Some are rising juniors. Many are rising sophomores.
Earlier this week, we dove into 12 uncommitted '09 standouts. Now, let's dive into the standouts among the '10s.
Sophia Locklear
Taft/Mid Fairfield CT Stars, 9/6/2010, F, right shot, 5-1
Hometown: Madison, Conn.
Locklear can flat-out fly, and she was fantastic all day on Saturday. She generated speed quickly and drove play through the neutral zone. She got some quality scoring chances, including a one-timer from the left dot after coming off the bench and finding an open seam. One of her two goals was on a breakaway. Locklear got lost behind the defense on a regroup and went off to the races, easily gaining even more separation and scoring five-hole. Later, she finished a loose puck in a scramble in front after a strong effort by Scarlett Robertson.

Lexi Buco
Loomis Chaffee, 1/8/2010, F, left shot, 5-6
Hometown: Cranston, R.I.
Buco was dominant at different points throughout the day alongside her Loomis teammate, Robertson. Buco was confident and created chances off the rush, and she was patient with the puck low in the offensive zone, letting lanes to the net open up. She scored a highlight-reel goal off the rush, too. Buco came up with the puck out of a board battle in the defensive zone and drove the other way. She cut into the high slot and went bar-down with an effortless release.
Maize Wilner
Bishop Kearney Selects, 2010, F, right shot, 5-5
Hometown: Old Greenwich, Conn.
Wilner was shifty and dynamic throughout the day. Her ability to change speeds gave defenders issues in 1-on-1 matchups off the rush. She had one chance, in particular, off a quick cut and shoulder fake to open a lane for a heavy shot off the rush. Wilner's speed also helped her force turnovers in the neutral zone, including one early on where she intercepted a pass and drove in for a scoring chance.
Alessandra Picard
Deerfield/Mid Fairfield CT Stars, 01/2010, F, right shot, 5-8
Hometown: Madison, Conn.
Picard was one of the most effective skaters on the ice throughout the day. Her strength showed as she was powerful down low, dominating in 1-on-1 matchups and protecting pucks. She consistently pushed for offense and set up several chances by powering by defenders and driving to the net.

Andrea Hall
Shattuck-St. Mary's, 10/6/2010, D, left shot, 5-8
Hometown: Greenwich, Conn.
Hall mainly skated on a pair with Amaya McNeil, and the two excelled together. Hall's skating through the neutral zone gave her an advantage in transition and on regroups. She was strong leading the rush and had good edgework, quickly changing directions and cutting around defenders. She had several quality rushes, including one where she powered through the neutral zone, weaved around multiple defenders and set up a look in the slot. Later, she dangled another defender and got a terrific chance between the dots.
Amaya McNeil
Loomis Chaffee, 6/15/2010, D, right shot, 5-5
Hometown: Fairfield, Conn.
McNeil and Hall controlled the play whenever they were on the ice. McNeil's poise against forechecking pressure was impressive as she made quick decisions and a strong first pass. Her skating was smooth throughout the day, too, which made her effective defending the rush. She had several plays that she made look easy with her backward skating and good gap control.
Julianna Noury
Connecticut Jr. Rangers, 2010, D, right shot, 5-3
Hometown: Coventry, Conn.
Noury consistently made plays on breakouts and in the offensive zone. Her quick cuts, stops and starts allowed her to evade pressure at the point and along the boards. For the most part, she did a good job of playing with her head up and finding passing and skating lanes. She had a slick saucer pass on one regroup in particular.

Emilie Poirier
New Hampton/Valley Jr. Warriors, 2010, D, left shot
Hometown: Salem, N.H.
Poirier's quick feet gave her an advantage at the point and with the puck. She was able to close lanes and win races to keep plays alive at the point. On regroups, she shook off pressure to create space and buy herself some time as lanes opened up. Poirier got a terrific look jumping into the play, too, crashing the net for a Grade-A rebound look after a strong rush by Picard.
Leah Schut
Chittenden/Vermont Jr. Catamounts, 2010, F, left shot
Hometown: Chittenden, Vt.
Schut showcased good hands throughout the day, and she scored a beauty off a turnover. She intercepted an outlet pass at the right circle before dangling around a defender to her backhand. Schut feathered a top-shelf backhand over the glove to finish off a pretty sequence.
Al Hartmann
Phillips Andover/Connecticut Polar Bears, 02/2010, F/D, right shot, 5-4
Hometown: Castine, Maine
Hartmann played with plenty of energy, forced turnovers and was rewarded with a slick goal early on. After Abbey Neirinckx's drive to the net was broken up, Hartmann picked up the puck as the trailer and went top shelf in tight. Later, she did a great job of breaking up Wilner's rush before eventually forcing another turnover and setting up Kylie Livingstone for a wide-open one-time bid in the slot.

Elyse Seitz
Rice Prep/Vermont Jr. Catamounts, 2010, F, left shot
Hometown: South Burlington, Vt.
Seitz scored a sweet goal later in the session. She jumped all over an outlet pass up the middle, intercepting it out high before dangling around the defense. She scored with a slick short-side wrister that was perfectly inside the left post.
