Salisbury awarded top seed in prep tournament

Salisbury School has been awarded the top seed for this week’s New England prep school Stuart/Corkery tournament, one of eight teams selected to play for the region’s biggest prep prize.

Salisbury, which closed out the regular season on a 13-game win streak and is 23-3-0 overall, last won a New England title in 2008-09. The Crimson Knights will take on No. 8 Cushing Academy in a quarterfinal game Wednesday (3:45 p.m.) at Avon Old Farms.

The other Stuart/Corkery quarterfinals Wednesday are:

* No. 5 Belmont Hill at No. 4 Lawrence Academy (4 p.m.)

* No. 6 Gunnery vs. No. 3 Phillips Exeter (at Pomfret School, TBA)

* No. 7 Avon Old Farms at No. 2 Noble and Greenough (3:30 p.m.)

Semifinals will be held at the Icenter in Salem, N.H., on Friday (5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.). The championship will be played there Sunday (3 p.m.).

The Martin/Earl tournament will also feature four quarterfinals Wednesday:

* No. 8 Westminster at No. 1 Berkshire (4:30 p.m.)

* No. 5 Albany Academy vs. No. 4 St. Paul’s (at Deerfield Academy, 3:30 p.m.)

* No. 6 Choate at No. 3 Kent School (4 p.m.)

* No. 7 Brunswick vs. No. 2 St. Sebastian’s (at Williston/Northampton, TBA)

Semifinals will be held at the Icenter Saturday (2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.). The championship will be Sunday (1 p.m.).

The Piatelli/Simmons tournament will also feature four quarterfinals Wednesday:

* No. 8 St. Mark’s at No. 1 Kimball Union (TBA)

* No. 5 Dexter at No. 4 Winchendon (5:30 p.m.)

* No. 6 Kent’s Hill at No. 3 Holderness (at Phillips Exeter, TBA)

* No. 7 Brooks vs. No. 2 South Kent (at Eaglebrook, 4 p.m.)

Semifinals will be held at the Icenter Saturday (9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.), with the championship there Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
