Central Catholic, Malden Catholic to meet in Super 8 semis
After tying things up late in the third period, Central Catholic took down Springfield Cathedral in overtime. Jake Donahue buried the game-winner for the Raiders.
Central Catholic will square off with Malden Catholic in the next round of the Super 8 tourney on Wednesday night. The top-ranked Lancers were led by four-point nights from Ryan Fitzgerald (three goals, one assist) and linemate Brendan Collier (two goals, two assists) in their 7-2 blowout win over Hingham.
St. John’s Prep set to square off with BC High
In the final game of Super 8 group play, Sam Kurker scored twice for St. John’s Prep, leading them to a 3-1 win over St. Mary’s. The loss eliminated the Spartans.
BC High finished as the Group 1 runner-up thanks to an overtime goal by Matt Sullivan, which helped the Eagles beat St. John’s of Shrewsbury, 3-2, on Sunday.
Wayland, Medway advance to Division 3 state semifinals
In the Division 3 North boys’ hockey final, Wayland thumped rival Bedford by a score of 4-1. Evan Barber tallied twice for the Warriors, who had suffered two regular-season setbacks against the Buccaneers.
Wayland will take on Medway, who defeated Rockland 4-1 to earn the Division 3 South title, on Wednesday in the Division 3 state semifinals.
Milton wins Division 1 South championship
Top-seeded Milton got off to a first start and never looked back in Sunday’s Division 1 South championship, defeating ninth-seeded Natick to advance to the state championship.
Milton tallied just ten seconds into the contest and got a strong performance from netminder Jay Hankard between the pipes in their 3-1 victory.
