UVM's Pelkey to participate in USA Hockey National Festival

By Jesse Connolly

University of Vermont sophomore Amanda Pelkey has been named as one of the 79 players invited to partake in the 2012 USA Women's Hockey National Festival. The event will take place Aug. 5-13 in Blaine, Minnesota at the Schwan Super Rink.

Pelkey (Montpelier, Vt.) was named to the Women's Hockey East All-Rookie Team after a superb freshman season for the Catamounts. She played in all 32 games and placed second on the team with 14 points, scoring five goals and adding nine assists.

The week-long festival will culminate with the selection of a roster to represent the U.S. in a U-22, three-game series against Canada, which will take place in Calgary shortly afterward (Aug. 16-19).

Twenty-one of the 23 members of the U.S. Women's National Team that won the silver medal at the 2012 IIHF Women's World Championship in Vermont this spring will be in attendance at the festival.
