 1

UMass-Lowell

 Overall: 19-8-0

Hockey East: 14-7-0

The River Hawks’ next victory will give them four times as many wins as their overall total from last year, and more than triples their 2010-11 Hockey East haul.

 2

 Boston College

 Overall: 19-10-1

Hockey East: 13-7-1

A thorough 6-1 win over Vermont Friday set up Monday’s thrilling overtime win in the Beanpot, where the Eagles earned their third straight title for the first time since 1963-65.

 3

Boston University

 Overall: 17-10-1

Hockey East: 13-7-1

The Terriers took a pair of losses last week, and it’s the one that doesn’t count in the Hockey East standings – Monday’s 3-2 crusher in the Beanpot against BC – that hurt the worst.

 4

Maine

Overall: 17-9-3

Hockey East: 12-8-2

A split weekend against Providence and UMass-Lowell cost the Black Bears the opportunity to solidify a home-ice spot, and if the season ended today they’d be the No. 5 seed and travel to Merrimack on the head-to-head tiebreaker rule.

 5

Merrimack

Overall: 15-7-6

Hockey East: 11-6-4

Once the No. 1 team in the country, the Warriors are 3-3-2 over their last eight, with a loss and a draw last weekend bringing them into a tie with Maine for fourth place in Hockey East.

6

Harvard

Overall: 8-7-10

ECAC: 6-4-8

The Crimson did the ECAC proud by beating Northeastern in the consolation game of the Beanpot. If you’re wondering when Harvard might finally return to the Beanpot championship, consider this: Junior forward Marshall Everson and freshman forward Colin Blackwell were named semifinalists for the Walter Brown Award, presented to the best U.S.-born college hockey player in New England. The future is bright for the Crimson.

 7

Quinnipiac

Overall: 15-10-5

ECAC: 7-7-4

The Bobcats haven’t won two games in a row since early December. Discipline in their own defensive zone is their weakness. They have allowed at least four goals in four of their last five games, and at least six in three of those contests.

 8

Yale

Overall: 10-13-2

ECAC: 7-10-1

There are signs that the bottom is falling out on the Elis, who were seeded as a top-10 team in the nation in some preseason rankings. They trailed Cornell 4-0 after two periods of a 4-2 loss Saturday. With a loss at Colgate Friday night, it marked Yale’s third winless weekend since Jan. 15.

 9

New Hampshire

Overall: 12-14-3

Hockey East: 9-11-2

They’re continuing to dig out of the hole they were in early in the season, and the Wildcats are looking stronger each week, with a win and a tie last weekend to give them a little cushion in seventh place in Hockey East.

 10

Bentley

  Overall: 11-12-7

Atlantic: 11-6-6

Buddy system: Brett Gensler scored two goals in Friday’s 5-1 win over AIC; Dan Koudys got two in Saturday’s 3-2 win that completed the sweep.

 11

Providence

Overall: 12-14-2

Hockey East: 10-10-1

A pair of wins over Maine and UMass stopped the bleeding for the Friars, who are an even 3-3 over their last six with a crucial pair of games at Northeastern ahead this weekend.

 12

 Holy Cross

Overall: 14-13-3

Atlantic: 12-8-3

Here come the Crusaders. They’ve outscored rivals 20-4 during four-game win streak.

 13

UConn

Overall: 12-15-3

Atlantic: 11-10-2

Cole Schneider netted a hat trick in a 5-5 tie against Sacred Heart Friday, and then missed 2-1 OT loss Saturday with injury.

 14

Dartmouth

Overall: 9-12-4

ECAC: 6-9-3

The Big Green have not won a game since Jan. 27, and they are 0-4-2 in their last six games. What happened to the team that took Cornell and Colgate to overtime – on the road – on the same weekend Jan. 20 and 21?

 15

Northeastern

Overall: 11-14-3

Hockey East: 7-12-2

The Huskies picked a bad time for their game to go south, with a pair of dispiriting Beanpot losses extending the program’s title drought to 24 years, and last Friday’s loss to New Hampshire dropping them just outside the playoff bubble.

 16

 UMass

Overall: 10-13-5

Hockey East: 6-11-4

There is simply no way to figure the Minutemen out. Friday, they scored their third huge upset of the year with a 3-2 win over No. 2 BU, but the next night got down early and couldn’t catch up to Providence.

 17

Brown

Overall: 8-14-3

ECAC: 5-11-2

The Bears have lost six in a row. They are in last place in the league standings. A No. 5 seed in the ECAC tournament and a first-round match-up with Brown is looking pretty safe for opponents right now.

 18

Vermont

Overall: 5-22-1

Hockey East: 2-18-1

The Catamounts are the only team without a legitimate claim in what’s shaping up to be a heated Hockey East playoff race, and have to win out to have even a hope of making the tournament – even then, they’d need both Northeastern and UMass to go winless the rest of the way.

 19

AIC

Overall: 5-23-2

Atlantic: 4-17-2

Junior Adam Pleskach has been a bright spot during a dim season, leading the team with 12-8-20 scoring totals.

 20

Sacred Heart

Overall: 3-24-3

Atlantic: 2-18-3

Signs of life? Pioneers went 0-16-1 in their first 17 league games, and are 2-2-2 in their last six.
