Gameday Blog: BC Eagles vs. Ferris State Bulldogs

Two periods down and possibly just one to go in the national championship game, as BC leads Ferris State 2-1 through 40 minutes.

The Bulldogs had three power play opportunities in the middle frame.

Paul Carey went off for a senseless tripping goal when he knocked over goaltender Taylor Nelson behind the net, but Ferris State couldn't muster much puck possession in the offensive zone.

With 10:35 gone, Kyle Bonis got in behind the D, forcing captain Tommy Cross to give him a hook before he got a shot off on Parker Milner.

With Cross in the box, BC had their best bid of the period when Barry Almeida was stoned on a 2-on-1.

After killing off a too-many-men call, BC again put Ferris State on the power play with 24 ticks to go in the period, as Bill Arnold was whistled for roughing.

The Bulldogs will begin the third with 1:36 of PP time to work with.

The two teams combined for 29 shots in the middle frame. BC is 1-for-1 on the PP, while Ferris State is 0-for-3.

Twenty minutes are in the books down at the Tampa Bay Times Forum where the Eagles hold a 2-1 lead over the Bulldogs in the national championship game.

Ferris State had a 2-on-1 in the opening minute but couldn't cash in, failing to put a shot on Parker Milner.

With 3:18 gone, Steven Whitney buried a feed from Barry Almeida with a backhanded shot past Taylor Nelson, staking BC to a 1-0 lead.

Shortly after Boston College opened the scoring, Ferris State had a close call when Jordie Johnston hit the post.

The Bulldogs completed their bid to knot things up with 5:19 gone in the game. Andy Huff had a great chance but was stoned by Milner. The rebound kicked out right in front. Travis Ouelette crashed in and slammed it home to make it 1-1.

With 9:27 to go in the frame and the Eagles' power play coming to an end, Brian Dumoulin sent a harmless shot in from the point. Paul Carey redirected it (likely with his glove) past Nelson. The play was reviewed but eventually deemed a good goal.

BC pressed and had a number of chances to make it 3-1 but couldn't beat Nelson.

Ferris State finally got some momentum going late in the period. With 28 ticks left, Milner had to absolutely rob Garrett Thompson, whose backhanded shot was labeled for the net but kicked out by Milner's left pad.
