It’s been a strange, trying season thus far for Boston University, whose problems reach far beyond failing to capture the Beanpot Trophy for the third year running.
BU Today reported that Max Nicastro was arrested early Sunday morning by BU Police. The junior defenseman has been charged with sexual assault.
According to the report, the incident occurred on campus and BU Police Chief Thomas Robbins is working with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office in the investigation of the allegations.
BU’s athletic director, Mike Lynch, stated that Nicastro has been suspended from the team pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Terriers were forced to deal with a similar situation in December when Corey Trivino, the team’s leading scorer at the time, was kicked off the team by coach Jack Parker (Somerville, Mass.) after being arrested for allegedly groping and attempting to rape a BU resident assistant.
Nicastro, a California native, had nine points through his first 27 games this season. He was selected 91st overall by the Red Wings in 2008.
He is being held on $25,000 cash bail and is set to be arraigned in Bright District Court on Tuesday.
