Original Six: The many faces of Bruins coach Claude Julien

By Jesse Connolly

Now just a few months shy of entering his seventh season as the team’s head coach, Claude Julien has become one of the longest-tenured and most successful bench bosses in the history of the Boston Bruins. With two trips to the finals in the last three seasons and a franchise-record 36 playoff victories, Julien’s Bruins have been on the big stage often during his tenure. Throughout that time in the spotlight, our good friends at Getty Images have captured many an amusing photo of him. Here are six standouts.

6. Little chilly

What we see: Claude Julien’s teeth chatter as he begrudgingly gives Steve Begin another shift while pondering why the Bell Centre thermostat is set to minus-85 Celsius.

5. Sharp-dressed man

What we see: “Only 20 more minutes and I can take off this hat. Only 20 more minutes and I can take off this hat. Only 20 more…”

4. Sign language

What we see: Claude Julien accurately predicts how many points the Giants will score just hours before their 21-17 victory over the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI — or possibly lets Zdeno Chara know there are two men on with one out.

3. On your feet!

Official caption: Claude Julien looks for a penalty call during Game 5 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals against Washington on April 21, 2012.

What we see: After witnessing him ignore a Garden cameraman, Claude Julien goes berserk and orders the conductor-hat-wearing season-ticket holder to “stand up and (expletive) dance NOW!”

2. Feel my rage

What we see: Claude Julien obliges a linesman unfamiliar with the Mesozoic era and explains what a predatory pterodactyl would look like. Or maybe he’s just doing his best Patrick Bateman face.

1. Sweet victory

What we see: Haha! Stanley, Cup, CHAMPION! Which one of y’all wanted me fired again?
