Turfed tune-ups: NHL cancels September preseason games

By Jesse Connolly

On Wednesday, the National Hockey League announced that all preseason games through Sept. 30 have been canceled.

With labor talks at a complete standstill, the announcement is further proof that the NHL's regular season is in serious danger of not starting on time. The 2012-13 season is slated to commence on Oct. 11, a night on which eight teams were set to be in action.

One of those squads is the Boston Bruins, who are now unlikely to begin their upcoming campaign that night in Philadelphia against the Flyers.

The NHL's cancellations wiped four games off of the B's preseason schedule. Here are the tilts that've been nixed:

Sept. 25 at Capitals (Verizone Center, Washington)
Sept. 26 at Sabres (First Niagara Center, Buffalo)
Sept. 29 vs. Jets (Credit Union Centre, Saskatoon)
Sept. 30 at Jets (MTS Centre, Winnipeg)

And here's what remains for preseason contests:

Oct. 3 vs. Capitals (TD Garden)
Oct. 5 vs. Sabres (TD Garden)
Oct. 6 at Canadiens (Bell Centre, Montreal)
