NEWS & NOTES

* Even if you subtract their 9-2 win over the Rangers, the Sharks would still be leading the league with 3.75 goals per game. Scary.

* San Jose acquired noted fighter Mike Brown from the Oilers earlier this week, adding some toughness to their fourth line.

* Loui Eriksson suffered a concussion on a hit by John Scott in Wednesday's win over Buffalo. The winger is out indefinitely.

FUN FACTS

Milan Lucic (4 pts last 2 GP)

Carl Soderberg (3 pts last 2 GP)

Greg Campbell (0 pts last 8 GP)

* The only active NHL player the Bruins received from San Jose in the Joe Thornton trade, Brad Stuart, is in his second year back with the Sharks. Stuart had 48 points in 103 games as a Bruin.

Patrick Marleau (6 pts last 4 GP)

Tommy Wingels (3 pts last 4 GP)

John McCarthy (0 pts last 3 GP)

* Matt Nieto, BU's leading goal scorer last season, is off to a strong start in the NHL with five points through nine games.

* Dougie Hamilton's brother, Freddie, made his NHL debut Monday in the Sharks' 1-0 shootout win over Detroit. The two are set to face off as NHLers for the first time.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

* The Bruins have the misfortune of playing the best team in the league in the second half of a back-to-back, as Boston was in Buffalo last night. The well-rested Sharks were already in town and practiced at Boston University. The Bruins are in trouble if they run out of gas at any point.

* If the Bruins manage to get the best of Antti Niemi tonight, it'll be a first. He's 5-0-0 lifetime as a Blackhawk and Shark against the B's with a 1.77 goals-against average and .932 save percentage. His fellow Finn, Tuukka Rask, has never faced San Jose.

* With Eriksson's injury, Brad Marchand moves back up to the second line, while Reilly Smith shifts over to right wing. Smith has a five-game point streak going.
