NEWS & NOTES

* Johnny Boychuk did not make the trip to Long Island. The B's blueliner injured himself when he crashed into the boards during the second period of Boston's win over Anaheim Thursday. He missed the remainder of the game. Coach Claude Julien said Boychuk is day-to-day.

* The Isles are coming off a 5-4 shootout win in Ottawa last night. New York erased a 4-2 deficit.

* The two New England natives on the Isles' roster, Brian Strait (Waltham, Mass.) and Colin McDonald (Wethersfield, Conn.), aren't expected to be in the lineup for tonight's tilt.

FUN FACTS

Jarome Iginla (7 pts last 5 GP)

Torey Krug (4 pts last 5 P)

Greg Campbell (0 pts last 12 GP)

Reilly Smith (0 pts last 4 GP)

* This will be Zdeno Chara's 42nd career game against the team that drafted him 56th overall back in 1996. He has 10-21-31 lifetime totals against the Isles.

* Heading into the 2013-14 season, Brad Marchand averaged two shots per game. He has just two shots in his last seven tilts.

Kyle Okposo (10 pts last 7 GP)

Thomas Hickey (3 pts last 4 GP)

Josh Bailey (0 pts last 3 GP)

Michael Grabner (0 pts last 4 GP)

* After spending parts of five seasons in Manchester with the Monarchs, AHL All-Star Thomas Hickey was waived and claimed by the Isles in January. The former fourth overall pick quickly carved out a permanent role on New York's blue line after making his long-awaited NHL debut. Hickey has seven points and is plus-14 in 52 career games.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

* It'll be the battle of the backups at Nassau Coliseum tonight, with Chad Johnson taking on Kevin Poulin. Johnson was OK in his first start as a Bruin, which was a 5-2 win in Buffalo. He allowed two goals on 16 shots. Poulin's been rocky in his two starts, stopping just 52 of 59 shots in losses to the Blackhawks and Flyers. Poulin has never faced Boston. Johnson made a relief appearance against the Isles while a member of the Rangers in 2011, allowing two goals on six shots.

* With Johnny Boychuk out, Dougie Hamilton will take on a bigger workload, as the youngster is pairing up with captain Zdeno Chara. The Isles' top two lines have been playing really well of late, so No. 27 will have to be up to the task if Boston hopes to stifle red-hot centers John Tavares and Frans Nielsen.

* Longtime Bruins-killer Thomas Vanek will also be a cause for concern for the Black and Gold, especially with Jack Capuano's squad getting last change. The former Sabre, who has one assist through two games as an Islander, has 27-28-57 totals in 50 career games against the B's.
