NEWS & NOTES

* Nathan Horton remains sidelined after undergoing shoulder surgery during the offseason. The ex-Bruin likely won't face his former club, as Horton's slated to return in December and the last Boston-Columbus matchup of the season is on Nov. 30.

* Former BC Eagle Cam Atkinson has worked his way up to the Blue Jackets' top line. Typically a right wing, the Greenwich, Conn., native will be on the left side with Brandon Dubinsky and the team's leading scorer, Marian Gaborik. Atkinson has a goal and two assists in his last two games. This will be his first career matchup against the Bruins.

* After a rough go of it against Calgary on opening night (four goals in 30 shots), Sergei Bobrovsky has been sharp in his last two starts. He's allowed just three goals on 57 shots, leading Columbus to wins over the Isles and Sabres.

OBSCURE STATS

Milan Lucic (3 pts last 3 GP)

Torey Krug (2 pts last 2 GP)

Jarome Iginla (0 pts last 3 GP)

Loui Eriksson (0 pts last 3 GP)

* Jarome Iginla has 24-26-50 totals in 46 career games against the Blue Jackets.

* Dating back to last season in Dallas, Loui Eriksson now has just three goals in his last 23 games.

Marian Gaborik (5 pts last 3 GP)

Cam Atkinson (3 pts last 2 GP)

Matt Calvert (0 pts in last 3 GP)

* Blake Comeau has never scored a goal against Boston. Today will be his 15th career game against the B's.

* Marian Gaborik, on the other hand, has nine goals -- including three game-winners -- in 21 games against the Bruins.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

* Much like the Avalanche the other night, the Blue Jackets are a team the Bruins haven't seen much of over the years. In fact, the two teams haven't met since Dec. 10, 2011. Familiarity aside, the Blue Jackets definitely have an edge being on home ice. They went 14-5-5 at Nationwide Arena last year. They were just 10-12-2 on the road.

* If Jared Boll is in the lineup, I'd be floored if he doesn't throw down with Shawn Thornton. A fight between the two seems to be a mortal lock every time these two teams square off.

* We should have ourselves another solid goaltending duel, with the reigning Vezina Trophy winner, Bobrovsky, going up against Tuukka Rask. The B's netminder has fared well in his career against the Blue Jackets. In four games, he's 3-1-0 with a 1.72 goals-against average and .942 save percentage. Bobrovsky, a former Flyer, is 0-1-0 in two appearances against Boston, but with a .938 save percentage. If you're betting on this one, take the under.
