Good reads

  • Why haven’t more NHL fans canceled their season tickets? Greg Wyshynski shares his theory.

  • I know you’ve heard it dozens of times, but here’s a reminder of the impact the lockout has on the businesses – and their employees – that surround TD Garden, courtesy of the Boston Globe.

  • Canadiens d-man Josh Gorges invited all of his Twitter followers to come play in an outdoor game with him at a rink up in Montreal. How awesome is that?

Quick hits

  • Due to inclement weather, tonight’s game between the Pirates and P-Bruins in Portland has been postponed. The tilt will now take place Jan. 2.

  •  The Whale and Sound Tigers will conclude a home-and-home series tonight down in Hartford at the XL Center. Bridgeport took care of business in their barn last night, thumping Connecticut by a score of 5-2. David Ullstrom had a goal and three assists for Bridgeport.

History lesson

  • On this day in 1992, the Rangers scored four goals in the third period and rookie Alexei Kovalev notched his first career hat trick, leading New York to a 6-5 victory over the visiting Bruins. Mike Gartner also had a pair of goals for the Blueshirts. Steve Heinze had a pair of tallies for the B’s. Andy Moog allowed all six goals in 36 shots.

Entirely off-topic

  • Last week, Tim Tebow watched as the QB below him on the depth chart got the start in place of the mind-numbingly awful Mark Sanchez. Now, with third-stringer Greg McElroy hurt, Jets coach Rex Ryan is turning back to Sanchez – essentially shoving a pair of middle fingers right in Tebow’s face. It’s a shame one of the most comically disastrous seasons in NFL history will be coming to a close soon.
