NHL New England: Arcobello on a roll in AHL

By Joshua Kummins

Mark Arcobello (Milford, Conn.) has been helping the Oklahoma City Barons creep back into the American Hockey League playoff picture, but his recent success has shown the Edmonton Oilers they have a suitable piece to play at the NHL level regularly.

The AHL's most recent Player of the Week has recorded at least a point in each of the 11 games he's played in since being downed from the Oilers for playing time prior to the Olympics.

The Yale product has scored four goals and four assists in just the first three March games for the Barons, after notching 14 points in seven February contests.

Arcobello, who opened the season with four goals and 18 points in 41 NHL games, earned the AHL Player of the Week honor on Monday after leading the Barons to three important Western Conference victories.

Arcobello's status in the organization was up in the air before the NHL trading deadline passed earlier this week, but his torrid scoring pace and strong showing earlier in the season have shown general manager Craig MacTavish and the Edmonton brass they have something strong for the future.
