Free-agent Gibbons signs with Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed free agent forward Brian Gibbons (Braintree, Mass.) to a two-year entry level contract, it was announced by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero on Monday.

Gibbons, who attended the Penguins development camp in 2010, just completed his fourth season of collegiate hockey with Boston College. He finished his senior campaign with 18 goals and 51 points in 39 games.

Gibbons, an assistant captain at BC, was named All-Hockey East second team and Hockey East All-Tournament team.

The 5-foot-8, 165 pound forward has twice won the NCAA Division 1 title during his Boston College career (2008, 2010). He played 160 career games with the Eagles, posting 56 goals, 108 assists and 164 points.
